1. Basic Information

Types of Acommodation

Nagoya University offers the following types of accommodation. No application is necessary. Unless correspondence to the contrary has been exchanged, all NUPACE students will live in one of these university dormitories. The results of the room allocation will be announced in late August. Please note that they do not have the option of choosing in which residence they will reside.

Payment of Dormitory Fees

Residents must pay monthly rent in full, even if residing in university accommodation for only one day of a particular month. Rent cannot be calculated on a per day basis. Please also note that monthly residential fees (including the bedding lease fee) will NOT be waived or refunded during a period of absence.

Access to Higashiyama Campus

International Residence Daiko is approximately 20 minutes from the Higashiyama Campus by subway and on foot. International Ohmeikan and International Residence Yamate are both located about 10 minutes on foot from the Higashiyama Campus. For more details, please refer to the accommodation overviews below.

Meals

Currently, there are no university-managed canteens in any of the residences and, as such, students should bear in mind that they will have to cater for themselves or eat out.

Common Rules

Entry to the dormitories by non-residents, including family and friends, is strictly prohibited.

2. Accommodation Overview

International Ohmeikan (Japanese and International Students)

Facilities: International Ohmeikan consists of 3 reinforced concrete buildings with 290 single rooms(12㎡). Each floor has a shared kitchen, laundry room, and living room for common use.

  • There is a Residents Committee, and each resident is required to pay 1,500 yen per semester to cover the Committee's operating costs (The fee is subject to change).
  • Bills for rent and utilities will be delivered to your mail box on the 1st of every month. Complete all payments by cash at a Post Office or convenience store.
  • The bedding lease includes a pillow, bed pad, duvet, blanket, pillowcase, and sheets.

Each room is equipped with a unit bath (including toilet), bed, wardrobe, desk, chair, shelf, shoe rack, and air conditioner. The residence houses 230 Japanese students and 60 international students.

Internet Access

Wireless internet (Wi-Fi) is available in each room and the lobby. Internet access is free of charge.

International Residence Daiko(Japanese and International Students)

Facilities: International Residence-Daiko is an eight-story building with 224 single rooms (13m²) and 4 couples' rooms (26m²). Each floor has two dining kitchens and living rooms, and two coin laundries for common use.

* Couple’s rooms are available exclusively to married couples. Applicants must provide proof of marriage to the NUPACE Office when applying for a couple’s room.
  • A non-refundable fee of 15,000 yen (for full-year students) / 10,000 yen (for one-semester students) will be charged to cover repair costs upon moving in.
  • Rent for the following month must be paid by the end of the previous month.
    • You will be required to pay two months’ rent in the month you move in.
    • Payments can be made in cash at a convenience store or Post Office. The first month’s rent may be paid by credit card at the dormitory office.
    • In addition to individual utility charges, shared area usage fees are also included in the total utility cost.
  • The bedding set includes a pillow, bed pad, duvet, blanket, pillowcase, and sheets.

Each room is equipped with a unit bath (including toilet), a bed, an open wardrobe, a desk, a chair, a desk lamp, and an air conditioner. In the shared areas, a microwave and electric kettle are available for free use. Other electrical appliances such as a television, rice cooker, and hairdryer are available for rent at an additional cost.
There are seven Resident Assistants (RAs) living in the dormitory.

How to Access the Dormitory

Transport to Higashiyama Campus

As almost all classes are held at the Higashiyama Campus, most residents of International Residence Daiko will need to commute there by subway (Meijō Line). The journey from the dormitory to Higashiyama Campus takes approximately 20 minutes.

Transport to Tsurumai Campus

Medical students commute to the Tsurumai Campus. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes.

International Residence Yamate North (International Students Only)

Facilities: International Residence Yamate North is a three-story building with 102 single rooms (approximately 15m²). It houses a lounge, a recyclable trash area, two laundry rooms, mail boxes, and an administrative office.

Each room is furnished with an air conditioner, a kitchenette (including a sink, single-burner IH hob, microwave, fridge, and extractor fan), a unit bath (with toilet), a bed with bedding, an open wardrobe, storage shelves, a desk, a chair, curtains, a desk lamp, and a TV connection.
Seven Resident Assistants (RAs) are shared between the North and South buildings.

International Residence Yamate South (International Students Only)

Facilities: International Residence Yamate South is a 7-story building with 8 dormitory rooms and 1 unit as a communal living unit, with a capacity of 112 residents in 14 units. (Dormitory rooms are single occupancy and approximately 7㎡). The open living room (23㎡) in the common space is equipped with a kitchen (with a refrigerator and a microwave oven), a table, three wash counters, two unit showers, three toilets, and two washing and drying machines.
