Housing

Nagoya University operates two mixed Japanese/international student dormitories, International Ohmeikan, International Residence-Daiko, and three dormitories used exclusively by international students: International Residence Higashiyama, International Residence Yamate. Unless correspondence to the contrary has been exchanged, all NUPACE students will live in one of these university dormitories, although they do not have the option of choosing in which residence they will reside.

Access to the campus from International Residence-Daiko takes approximately 20 minutes by subway. International Residence-Higashiyama is located on Higashiyama campus, and International Residence-Yamate and International Ohmeikan are within easy walking distance (See below for details).
Currently, there are no university-managed canteens in any of the residences and, as such, students should bear in mind that they will have to cater for themselves or eat out. On the first floor of International Residence Daiko is a pizza restaurant.

❖Payment of dormitory fees

Residents must pay monthly rent in full, even if residing in university accommodation for only one day of a particular month. Rent cannot be calculated on a per day basis. Please also note that monthly residential fees (including the bedding lease fee) will NOT be waived or refunded during a period of absence.

International Ohmeikan consists of 3 reinforced concrete buildings with 290 single rooms(12㎡). Each floor has a shared kitchen, laundry room, and living room for common use.

  • At International Ohmeikan, there is a Residents Committee, and each resident is required to pay ¥1,200 per semester to cover the Committee's operating costs (The fee is subject to change).
  • Bills for rent and utilities will be delivered to your mail box on the 1st of every month. Complete all payments by cash at a Post Office or convenience store.

Each room comes equipped with air conditioner, bed, unit-bath/shower, wardrobe, cabinet, shoebox, desk and chair. 230 Japanese students and 60 foreign students reside in this dormitory.

International Residence-Daiko is an eight-story building with 224 single rooms (13m²) and 4 couples' rooms (26m²). Each floor has two dining kitchens and living rooms, and two coin laundries for common use.

* Couple's rooms are reserved only for married couples, and applicants must submit proof of marriage to the NUPACE Office when requesting a couples room.
  • A non-refundable charge of ¥15,000(full-year students)/¥10,000(one-semester students) for repair costs will be levied when you move in.
  • The following month's room charge has to be paid in advance.
    • Therefore, you will be required to pay 2 months' rent in the month of moving in. The due date for payment falls on the last day of the month.
    • Payments can be made at a convenience store or Post Office by cash. The first month's rent payment can be made at the dormitory office by credit card.
    • In addition to individual utility charges, you will also be required to pay communal charges.

Each room is furnished with an air conditioner, bed, unit bath/shower, open closet, desk, chair, desk lamp. There are seven Resident Assistants (RA).

❖Transportation to Higashiyama Campus

Since almost all courses take place at Higashiyama Campus, International Residence-Daiko residents will need to commute to Higashiyama Campus by subway (Meijo line). It takes approximately 20 minutes from the dormitory to Higashiyama Campus.

❖Transportation to Tsurumai Campus

Students affiliated to the School of Medicine should commute to Tsurumai Campus via the JR Chuo Main line. It takes approximately 25 minutes to reach the campus.

[International Residence Yamate North] (International Residents Only)

International Residence Yamate North is a three-story building with 102 single rooms (approximately 15m²). It houses a lounge, a recyclable trash area, two laundry rooms, mail boxes, and an administrative office.

Each room is equipped with air conditioner, kitchen space with refrigerator, IH cooker and microwave oven, unit-bath/shower, bed/bedding, desk, chair, desk lamp, open closet, storage shelf, air conditioner, and TV connection. Seven Resident Assistants (RA), common to North and South, live in the building.

A wired connection and wireless LAN service is available at no additional expense in your room and at lounge. In addition, wired connection and wireless LAN service to the internet service is available at lounge from 8:30 to 22:00 on weekdays and 9:00 to 22:00 on weekends.

[International Residence Yamate South] (International Residents Only)

International Residence Yamate South is a 7-story building with 8 dormitory rooms and 1 unit as a communal living unit, with a capacity of 112 residents in 14 units. (Dormitory rooms are single occupancy and approximately 7㎡). The open living room (23㎡) in the common space is equipped with a kitchen (with a refrigerator and a microwave oven), a table, three wash counters, two unit showers, three toilets, and two washing and drying machines.
