Student Status

Exchange students admitted to Nagoya University through the NUPACE programme shall hold one of the following student statuses.

Student status varies depending on the student’s academic level (undergraduate or graduate) and the purpose of their exchange (coursework or research).

Graduate students, in particular, may select the status most appropriate for their academic objectives.

1. Undergraduate Students

Special Undergraduate Student

Eligibility: Undergraduate students

Purpose: To complete taught courses and earn academic credits

Coursework Requirement:
- Minimum of 15 credits per semester (equivalent to 30 ECTS)
- Or 30 credits per year(equivalent to 60 ECTS)

Overview:
Students will enrol in courses, receive grades, and earn credits. Please be advised that the actual transfer of credits lies under the jurisdiction of the student's home university.

Special Short-term Training Student

Eligibility: Undergraduate medical students

Purpose: To participate in a medical clerkship

Coursework Requirement: None

Overview:
Students in this category participate in a medical clerkship, gaining hands-on clinical experience typically within Nagoya University Hospital or affiliated institutions. A log report must be submitted at the end of each semester.

2. Graduate Students

Special Graduate Student

Eligibility: Master's students

Purpose: To complete taught courses and earn academic credits

Coursework Requirement:
- Minimum of 15 credits per semester (equivalent to 30 ECTS)
- Or 30 credits per year(equivalent to 60 ECTS)

Overview:
Students will enrol in courses, receive grades, and earn credits. Please be advised that the actual transfer of credits lies under the jurisdiction of the student's home university.

Special Research Student

Eligibility: Master's or doctoral students

Purpose: To engage primarily in guided research

Coursework Requirement: None (course enrolment is optional)

Overview:
Students will conduct research under the supervision of a Nagoya University academic. A research report must be submitted at the end of each semester.

Note: Students enrolled in doctoral programmes at the time of application will, in principle, be assigned this status.

Special Research Student (Medical Clerkship)

Eligibility: Graduate medical students

Purpose: To participate in a medical clerkship

Coursework Requirement: None

Overview:
